The Artists

Home / The Artists

We work with artists from across the UK. As well as developing relationships and helping to promote established artists, we are also keen to support those who are just emerging, helping them to take their next professional steps.

Our current group exhibition, Equine, has brought together artists from across the UK whose art works celebrate the strength and beauty of the horse. A full list of participating artists can be found below.

If you have any questions about the Gallery or the exhibition, or if you would like to purchase an artwork, please email jennifer@theviewgallery.co.uk.

Equine Exhibition

5th April – 18th May

Charlotte Englefield

Charlotte is a Wiltshire based artist, and this is the second time that she will be exhibiting with the Gallery. Working primarily in acrylics, Charlotte’s work aims to tap into the viewers emotions and memories, and she has contributed a very cheeky chap for the Equine exhibition.

“I spent much of my childhood years sketching, colouring and painting horses, and if I wasn’t painting them I was setting up jumps in the garden to take our ever patient family dog Polly, my hobby horse or my imaginary pony around a showjumping course over and over again!”

Skye Holland

Skye is a Wiltshire-based contemporary wildlife and wilderness artist who uses mixed media to create drawings, paintings, panel works and prints.

“My artwork is a commentary on the ever-shifting interaction of humanity with the natural and wild world, and the delicate equilibrium on which we all co-exist and depend.”

Sally Howard

Sally works in a contemporary style, aiming to create texture and movement in each piece. Sally is passionate about animal welfare and tries to capture the natural beauty in each animal that she creates, both to evoke a sense of empathy and intrigue from the viewer.

“I have owned horses for a large part of my life and find it interesting that when I create a piece like this, it’s not only the visual aspect that guides me, it’s also a tactile response as I remember just how the horse feels.”

Jane Johansson

Jane works from her studio in The Cowshed in Lewes, where she lives with her family and horses. Jane’s work aims to capture the spirit and energy of the horse through large scale, expressive paintings. She is also a member of the Society of Equestrian Artists.

“The sight and silhouette of a horse never fails to catch my attention and open my heart to another world. I am interested in the visceral connection between horse and human, the marks they leave on our hearts and the space they inhabit in our soul.”

Rebecca de Mendonça

Rebecca is well known for her equestrian art, and is an Associate Member and a trustee of the Society of Equestrian Artists. Rebecca is fascinated by the energy of people working with horses, and also capturing the atmosphere of a moment. Rebecca was recently awarded the prestigious Yoshimoto Prize at the 2024 Pastel Society Exhibition in London for one of her equestrian images.

“My new atmospheric equestrian pieces are a search for subtle nuances in shape, light and colour around the exquisite forms of my models.”

Rosie Norman

Rosie is a self taught, emerging artist based just outside of Silverstone. She is a huge animal lover, and especially enjoys having horses as a source of inspiration. Rosie works in pencil and is currently focused on realism, though often with a slightly surreal twist – as will be seen in the work being exhibited with the Gallery in this exhibition.

“I really want to show the beauty of the horse, but also the explosive movements and power that they have. Horses really are beautiful, and are an art in themselves.”

Candice Rouse

Candice is a pastel artist based in Wiltshire. Creating realistic works, soft pastel is her choice of medium as she loves the feeling of holding the pigment in her hands and the direct approach of putting the colour straight onto paper.

“Realism connects me to the subject I am painting and when it comes to horses, I enjoy the challenge of capturing the beauty and ‘feel’ of what I am seeing.”

Claire Thorogood

Claire Thorogood is a fine artist with the ability to capture the unique spirit of her subjects. Horses feature heavily in her work and is sought after by collectors across the globe.

“I often visualise the finished piece, and then experiment en route to achieve a result that stimulates me visually. I draw on these experiences creatively to produce artwork that has an impressionistic quality whilst capturing the unique personality of the horse.”
